Gas and Cowboys Don’t Mix

cowboy-buildersOver the last year or so the main talking topic in most pubs is the state of the economy and everyday on the news there more companies struggling to stay afloat. We hear about people losing their jobs and money being extremely tight in most households. People who would normally be moving to new homes are now renovating their existing homes, as the house market shrinks, with new kitchens and extensions, which of-course require the service of a gas fitter.

Did you know that around 14 people died last year and 234 people were admitted to hospital due to carbon monoxide poisoning due to cowboy gas fitters wrongly fitting gas appliances? The Gas Safe Register (formally Corgi) has warned that there are around 7500 gas fitters working in Britain without any qualifications.

HSE are warning home owners to check identification badges of any gas fitter that has to do any work on your home, not only home owners, they are now warning landlords that they are responsible for every house that they own and that all gas appliances must be correctly checked and certified. If you have had any gas appliance fitted you should have a Carbon Monoxide alarm fitted or carbon Monoxide patches which can placed in your home, caravan or workplace.

If you employ an unregistered gas fitter you will be putting your life at risk from gas explosion, gas leak or from carbon monoxide poisoning.
