Precautions of Swine Flu

swine-fluOne month ago the World was on the verge of a swine flu pandemic, making front page news around the World, since then it seems to have been demoted to page 8 or 9 in the national newspapers. A new report out today still reckons that two billion people will catch this strain in the Autumn and Winter time, as it mixes with our seasonal flu. There are several measures you can do to prevent the spread of this virus.

‘Coughs and sneezes spread diseases’ use a tissue to control the spread, dispose and wash your hands as soon as possible, this will kill the virus, (CATCH IT, BIN IT, KILL IT). In other attempts to control this virus, employers should advise staff that if they feel the symptoms of the flu they should stay at home. If at work and employees are showing flu symptoms they should be sent home as soon as possible.

For people that are dealing with the public they should not need to wear a face mask, however a risk assessment should be carried out in certain workplaces, for instance employees at a health centre are more likely to encounter people with flu symptoms than employees at the local swimming baths. Its up to us all to prevent the spread or this virus!

To-date there has been 5250 confirmed cases of swine flu with 61 deaths. The World Health Organisation (WHO) have now raised the alert to a stage 5. Remember CATCH IT, BIN IT, KILL IT.
