With the weather in the high 70s at the moment, don’t take any chances at work, accidents still happen in the Summer. We all know that its very warm in most factories but health and safety standards must be upheld. As we walk about the factory our feet may sweat, so its off with the safety boots and on with the summer shoes and flip flops, particularly, office staff that have to walk through the factory floor they sometimes forget to change into their safety shoes.
With slips and trips still a major source of accidents accounting for nearly 30% don’t forget to change into those safety shoes. Another area may be the goods in, working in the sun with overalls or work uniform, then there is the hi-vis jacket, heat exhaustion is a big problem at this temperature. Try to come in to the factory don’t stay in the sun for too long, apply suitable sun protection (at least factor 30).
Heat stress can occur very quickly some of the symptoms are,
- an inability to concentrate

- moist skin
If you experience any of these come in to the factory sit down and contact your first aider. We all love the sun it gives us a happy feeling, don’t let it get you down.
